The Beginning: 2008 – Hearing the Term “Water Softener” for the First Time
In 2008, I had never heard the term “water softener.”
Back then, I was simply selling RO systems — one-on-one, direct to customers. I
was doing the demos, handling installations myself, and slowly building a small
but passionate team.
One day, a happy RO customer called me to his office and asked a question
that would change the course of my life:
“Do you sell water softeners?”
I told him honestly, “I’m hearing this term for the first time.”
He explained that his architect (one of India’s most renowned) had recommended
installing a water softener in his new bungalow to protect his expensive
bathroom fittings.
Then came the golden words:
“If you want to learn, I’ll give you a chance.”
The First Step – Learning from the Ground Up
I grabbed the opportunity.
I searched for a vendor who could supply water softeners. At that time, very
few people in India knew about them. I found one who agreed to supply the
product and provide installation and after-sales support — and I asked if my
team could watch and learn.
The product was fully manual:
·
Salt had to be manually dissolved.
·
Multiport valve had to be operated by hand.
·
Regeneration had to be done every week based on
estimation (no water meter).
·
It took 1.5 hours each week to complete the
regeneration.
Still, we installed it — and learned everything we could.
We made no profit on this deal, but gained knowledge,
experience, and most importantly — the trust of our customer.
From One Customer to Many – But a Bigger Problem Emerges
This same customer soon referred us to his three business partners — and we
installed three more softeners.
But after a month, they called me and said:
“Take them back. We don’t have time to regenerate every week.”
They appreciated the water quality, but didn’t have the staff or patience to
operate the system manually.
So we offered a solution:
We would handle the regeneration service weekly for a small fee.
It worked… for a while. But we soon realized:
·
Customers weren’t happy paying for such a basic
task.
·
Our technicians weren’t happy either — sometimes
asked to buy salt on-site.
· And we couldn’t build a profitable model from this service.
The Realization – Manual Softening Cannot Scale
It became clear:
Manual softeners would never become mainstream in India.
Why?
·
No water meter = unnecessary regeneration or
salt/water wastage
·
Manual operation = 1.5 hours/week of effort
· Missed regeneration = hard water supply and unhappy customers
2009 – Building India’s First Fully Automatic Softener
Imported softeners existed — but were not made for Indian systems.
They were designed for:
·
Western plumbing systems
·
Fixed pressure conditions
·
Direct inlet supply
·
No overhead or underground tanks
Indian homes have:
·
Underground storage tanks
·
Overhead tanks
·
Automatic pumping systems
·
Variable pressure zones
Imported softeners were expensive, complicated, and not truly
automated.
So we designed something different:
·
Made in India
·
Designed for Indian water conditions and
plumbing setups
·
Fully automatic regeneration (no manual timing
or salt mixing)
·
Smart salt tanks with perforated discs, brine
valves, brine wells, and capacity to store 3 regeneration cycles
·
Water-flow-based regeneration
(accurate OBR management)
And above all — our signature innovation:
Introducing BFT – Before Tank Technology
BFT (Before Tank) was our breakthrough.
It answered a critical question:
“How do we prevent salty or dirty water from entering the overhead tank
during regeneration?”
Our solution:
·
A low-pressure switch
integrated with our multiport valve
·
During regeneration, if there’s no raw water,
the process pauses — preventing dirty/brine water from entering the overhead
tank
This became our signature technology.
No other company in India — or globally — offered this at the time.
We also added:
·
A pressure relief solenoid valve
to:
o
Prevent water hammering in the inlet pipeline
o
Protect pump overloading
o Protect multiport valve motor and gear
Educating the Industry – One Seminar at a Time
In 2012, we launched India’s first technical
training seminars on water softeners:
·
Focused on automation, installation, repair, and
design
·
Attended by dealers, service engineers, and even
competitors
·
57 seminars conducted across
India from 2012 to 2025
We didn’t hide our knowledge. We shared it — because our goal was not just to sell, but to uplift the entire industry.

Conclusion: From Zero to a Legacy of Innovation
What started in 2008 with a simple question —
“Do you sell water softeners?” —
became a 17-year journey of invention, failure, learning, and
leadership.
Today, we proudly say:
ORG ENGITECH LTD has played a key role in shaping the water softener
market in India.
We didn’t just introduce automatic softeners —
We made them practical, affordable, and reliable.
We shared our knowledge.
We built an ecosystem.
And we’re still innovating.
Final Word: To the Industry
We request all professionals:
Don’t cut corners.
Don’t under-engineer.
Understand the customer’s reality — and build what lasts.
A softener isn’t just a resin, FRP tank, valve, and salt drum...
A real softener is a system — where every part matters.
At ORG, we created designs where every component is included
for a reason — to ensure real results and long-term customer happiness.
Because in the end,
Happy customers build successful businesses.
